You have arrived at our private website, showcasing without question, one of the most rewarding projects that I have tackled in my lifetime. Do to the commitment and scale of the stonework and landscaping, the Cottages at Seven Coves, and now its monolithic main Lodge, have taken over eleven painstaking years to bring to fruition and I feel blessed for every moment that I have spent in and around the property. This website was created with the intention of sharing a memorable archive of images, videos, and words that express the surrealistic beauty of my beloved Spindrift compound and the many moods and emotions that its sacred grounds and gardens evoke.
Less than one mile from the mysterious beauty of Point Lobos State Park, where oil painter, Francis McComas, famously proclaimed that he had discovered; “God’s greatest meeting of land and sea”; the property is situated amidst a rare private Cypress forest and the dramatic coastal cliffs and inlets of the Carmel Highlands.
The Seven Coves residential resort represents the amalgamation of four separate prior home sites which cumulatively encompass over 4.25 acres of 180° oceanfront views. With the privacy of several separate living quarters uniquely cited and scattered throughout the grounds; the property is designed to cater to both its primary resident or host and their blessed and invited guest. It’s “North Cottage” and “South Cottage” are fully appointed two bedroom structures with gracious living rooms and kitchens, while its “Writer’s Cottage” and “Forest Cottage” offer a unique and cozy rustic one-bedroom experience with more subtle common areas, kitchenettes, and wet bars. The neighboring Lodge at Seven Coves further adds to guest enjoyment with its unforgettable and well curated Library and first class Health Spa and Fitness Facilities.
The painfully contorted, cryptically beautiful Cypress forest that pervades the property and surrounds many of its structures, softens the refractive light of the Sea, lulling the unsuspecting guest into a state of relaxation, as if exposed to a mythical opiate. While an awe-inspiring natural landscape, enhanced with over 150,000 pounds of mossy boulders, large floating flagstone steps, gracious footpaths and seaward viewing post; tease one to meander the gardens and grounds. And clearly, the projects primary bohemian insignia, is represented by the grandly scaled and rustic fireplaces. We thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of making each one of six fireplaces as unique and artful as the next. The Master Masons on the property have toiled tirelessly to give each stone its purposeful place and the ethos of their work can be felt through the mortar seams.
