Bike & Hikes

Guided daily “Bike and Hikes”

Infuse yourself with the grandest of nature …. with our unique and special combination of local ‘Bike and Hike’ excursions to energize the start of your day with a dose of oxygen and exercise. This is a very healthy, calibrated, and achievable exercise routine that we thoroughly enjoy sharing with our guest and we tailor each daily excursion to our guests’ capabilities. We have had unimaginably rave reviews from previous guest at Seven Coves who made a point of joining us on our daily excursions, as we set out to explore one of three alternating local park locations … all of which are within ten minutes of the exquisite Seven Coves and all of which offer their own unique jaw-dropping beauty.

To assure safety and guest comfort, we send along one of our property concierges in our property owned transportation vehicles to provide water, coffee, and a sundry of nutritional treats; but most importantly, the vehicle serves as a front-of-the-pack escort leading our bicyclist safely down the Pacific Coast scenic byway CA 1, even though it is only a short duration to the chosen Park destinations of either Point Lobos State Reserve to the North, or the trail head for Soberanes Redwood Canyon Trail and Garrapata State beaches to the South.

Importantly, the bike excursion is designed to be as rigorous and athletic or as passive and lazy as you desire, as we offer state-of-the-art GenZe™ e-bikes or motorized bikes which allow you the flexibility to throttle the whole way without peddling, or simply throttle up certain challenging hills to give you a boost, or to avoid throttling altogether so that you get the maximum amount of exercise and calorie burn through peddling. After we reach our destination and unsaddle from our e-bikes we will organize and proceed with our guided comfortable pre-chosen hiking paths which can average anywhere from a half a mile to 4 miles round-trip depending on the appetite of our guest. Most importantly, you will be exposed to some flora, fauna, fresh air and both coastal and forest scenery that is absolutely stunning.

The Point Lobos State Reserve and Marine Sanctuary is less than a mile to the north of Seven Coves and has long been considered the “crown jewel” of California’s 280 state parks, with its breathtaking beauty, fascinating wildlife and friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. Whether it be China Cove with its turquoise waters and serpentine kelp strands or the native Cypress Grove Trail on the north side of the Park, or numerous other astonishing respites, you will leave refreshed and imbibed by some of the most cryptically beautiful landscapes in the world. The Cypress Loop and the contiguous North Trail at Point Lobos are famous for the colorful lichens and algae that grow on these sculpted trees. Known as Trentepohlia Aurea, these algae thrive on the bark of the Cypress tree and react to light providing bright orange and rust accents among the gnarled and contorted appendages of the windswept Cypress.

Bike and Hike location #2

Soberanes Redwood Canyon Trailhead is approximately 2.8 miles to the south of Seven Coves and holds a majestic and mature Redwood Grove that runs upslope for approximately 2 miles along both sides of a crystal-clear Soberane’s Creek nestled in a deep and beautiful Canyon. During the first half-mile, one passes through wildflower meadows and numerous footbridges crisscrossing the creek before reaching the awe-inspiring gargantuan Coastal Redwoods.

A quiet stroll among these ancient giants is far more than a mid-mornings diversion--it's a transcendent experience on a par with standing in the nave of a Gothic cathedral and looking up at the colored rays of the sun streaming through the stained- glass windows. As John Steinbeck said about the Redwoods, "From them comes silence and awe... Respect--that's the word. One feels the need to bow to unquestioned sovereigns."

We typically organize and enjoy guiding our patrons on anywhere from 2 to 4-mile round trip hike through the Redwood groves which dominate the bottom of the canyon in the last western facing row of the mighty Santa Lucia mountains before they dive into the Sea.

Bike and Hike # 3

Garrapata State Park’s Coastal Trailhead - at approximately 5 miles from Seven Coves, this is our most vigorous Bike excursion and are most relaxing Hike. We make our way down to the trailhead at Garrapata’s surprisingly uncrowded white sand beaches where an abundance of sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters and whales are frequent visitors. This park is subtly marked, with only one "Garrapata State Park" sign and nineteen discreetly numbered turnout markers, and aficionados prefer to keep it that way so it remains unspoiled. These numbered markers lead to some of the best Big Sur hiking trails. Garrapata State Park's redwood groves and spectacular coastline are largely hidden from the road, seen only by those who take to its trails.
